SOS and the Ronald Tickner Educational Trust

As part of our educational outreach we have set up…

SOMERSET
ORGANISTS’
SUPPORT SCHEME

Our latest initiative is a scheme to offer a free one-hour visit to give guidance on the organ you usually play.

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • For players and prospective players of all abilities and ages
  • You may be a pianist who has been asked to play the organ
  • Or be interested in understanding the organ better
  • Or just someone wishing to improve their playing

WHAT COULD BE INCLUDED?

  • How the mechanism works
  • What the stops do and which are the best ones to use
  • How to play a hymn or song effectively
  • How to use the organ to encourage a congregation to sing their best
  • How to start to use the pedals
  • How to practise effectively
  • Where you can get help to learn more and develop your skills in the future

These are just suggestions, but the sessions can be tailored to individual needs.

The Ronald Tickner Educational Trust

Ronald Tickner was Organist and Choirmaster at what is now Taunton Minster from 1963-1999. The trust was founded in his memory in 2000, with the aim of supporting young musicians with lessons and experiences which will help them to make the most of their talents.

Are you an organist or pianist in Somerset aged under 25?
Are you keen to pursue individual tuition in organ or piano?

You could apply for a bursary and your music tuition and associated costs (such as books and short courses) could be covered by the Ronald Tickner Educational Trust. To find out more or make an application, please visit www.rtetrust.org

You can also contact the trust by emailing rtetrust@gmail.com
